PART 4 : TAKING ACTION TO HELP MYSELF

Quick Reference Self-Care Guide

It can be really useful to keep a few simple things in mind to help you live a healthier and happier life:

Be kind to yourself

No one is perfect and we should never expect ourselves or others to be perfect. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and all of us make mistakes. We learn from mistakes and move on. If things aren’t going your way, don’t beat yourself up for it. Showing yourself some compassion goes a long way to accepting yourself and accepting others for who they are.

Make time for yourself

Good self-care takes time and effort. It’s easy to get lost in all of our responsibilities and leave no time for ourselves. Your health and happiness are important and should be priorities in your life. When you look after yourself, you’ll be a better person for others too.

Make an effort to keep your relationships strong

Social connections help us thrive. Human being are social animals – we need other people in our lives. Make time for your relationships. Be kind and caring, and appreciate the people you have in your life. And make an effort to build new relationships too.

Remove negative influences in your life

Negative people and harmful activities can bring us down and cause chaos in our lives. Surround yourself with positive people and avoid activities that you know aren’t good for you or your health.

Focus on good habits for eating, sleeping, and physical activity

Good physical health helps you have good mental health, plain and simple. Work on eating well, drink in moderation, have good sleep hygiene, and make physical activity a part of your regular routine. You’ll feel better about yourself for having these healthy practices in place.

Words to live by:

All great things are simple and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope."
